Selection `06
After Day 1-the tally is:
1-Red Sox
1-Yankees
1-White Sox
How to handle Sista's recommendation that I root for somebody nobody roots for? I decided to put the 3 teams closest to a .500 record last year (Texas, Cincinnati and Houston) in a hat and draw out one mediocre team to add to the pool. The winner? The Reds.
So currently, each of these teams has a 5.55% chance of being "my team." The rest stand at 2.77%. There are four days remaining to lobby before the all-important selection day.
What, there's another election going on this week?

I use to watch the Richmond Braves growing up as a kid in Virginia and enjoyed seeing the players move on to the big leagues like Dusty Baker, Ralph Garr and I forget who else. I then followed the Houston Astros and completely quit the game after the strike... back when cigarettes were 35 cents a pack.
Baseball to me is truly 5 minutes of action crammed into 2 hours.
However, I may catch a couple of Sounds games only because I'm more of a fan of new stadiums and arenas.
So I would nominate the Milwaukee Brewers to the pool. There's a local baseball connection with the Sounds, a beer theme with Milwaukee and if you're lucky, catch the team when they play an exhibition... All of the benefits of rooting for MLB baseball from afar without the daily grind of keeping up.
And when wearing the cap, if anybody asks if you're a fan of the Brewers, "JUST SAY NO"...
"Nope, I just like the beer from Milwaukee."
Okay. I'm a Cards fan because of sick fascination with Jim Edmunds.
I say that you should choose Pittsburgh Pirates.
I have no idea why, it just came to mind.
Oh my god! Smiley would make an awesome Pirates fan. Especially in one of the old hats...
Although, he'd look so cute in it, I have to guess that he wouldn't get to watch much baseball, for once he put on his old fashioned uniform, I bet RUAbelle could find other things for him to do.
Your IT staff highly recommends adopting the Cincinnati Reds, as failure to root for the Redlegs frequently leads to increasing levels of spam and viruses.
We're just saying.
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT affiliate yourself with anything Pittsburgh. Forget about spam and viruses, I'd have to swear you off as a mortal enemy if you chose that city. What's next, rooting for the Steelers?!?! I think I'm going to be sick to my stomach... I said the word Stee...BLAH.
Juice, I can understand your Pittsburghophobia, but I ask that you look at this hat and consider how incredibly cute Smiley would look in it.
Straight women and gay men demand Smiley align himself with a team that has a nice hat he can wear while rooting for them.
And the Pirates have the cutest. It's just a fact.
